May 10, 2021. A new day in a new week. While I wonder what will happen this week, today, I’m interested in today. What can I do to turn this day into one that I’ll be satisfied with at 10 PM? Isn’t that really everyone’s goal? To go to bed satisfied with what you’ve done. That’s a line from a song I wrote. I think it’s a good goal. Moving on. Today is Clean Up Your Room Day, Trust Your Intuition Day, National Small Business Day and National Shrimp Day. I think I’ll celebrate my intuition. It’s proven to be pretty good over the years. This is the day in 1752 that Benjamin Franklin tests the lightning conductor with his kite-flying experiment. On this day in 1797 the 1st US Navy ship, the “United States,” was launched. This is the day in 1869 that the Golden Spike is driven, completing the 1st US Transcontinental Railroad at Promontory Summit, Utah connecting the Central Pacific Railroad with the Union Pacific. Lastly, on this day in 1963 Decca Records signed the Rolling Stones on advice of Beatle George Harrison. Today is Wayne Dyer’s birthday. He has so many excellent quotes it’s difficult to choose one. Here goes: Wayne said, “If you are thinking about, talking about, and spending energy on what is missing in your life, what is wrong, what you don’t like, or what always has been, then you are going to continue to attract those things into your life. We become what we think about.” Absolutely true. This is also the day that Shel Silverstein stopped living. He gives us a very good quote to begin our day: “How many slams in an old screen door? Depends how loud you shut it. How many slices in a bread? Depends how thin you cut it. How much good inside a day? Depends how good you live ’em. How much love inside a friend? Depends how much you give ’em.” Abide.
