The Earth will soon rotate into the sunlight of April 28th, 2021. That’s the benefit of living on a spinning ball circling a life giving Sun (energy is life). Be grateful. Love those little blue berries. Now to our daily look at history: On this day in 1253, Nichiren, a Japanese Buddhist monk, was declared to be the essence of Buddhism. I bring this obscure factoid up to give you one of his quotes: “If you light a lantern for another, it will also brighten your own way”. On this date in 1789 Fletcher Christian led a mutiny on HMS Bounty against captain William Bligh in the South Pacific. In 1881 on this day Billy the Kid escaped from the Lincoln County jail in Mesilla, New Mexico. On this day in 1934 FDR signs Home Owners Loan Act which was part of the New Deal that provided mortgage assistance to homeowners or would-be homeowners by providing them money or refinancing mortgages. This is the birthday (1908) of Oskar Schindler, the German businessman that saved the lives of 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust. He said, “no thinking person could fail to see what would happen.” This is the day in 1993 that NC basketball coach Jim Valvano died. Jim said, “Life changes when you least expect it to. The future is uncertain. So, seize this day, seize this moment, and make the most of it.” He and I agree. Now, I will seize this day and maybe have a slice of blue berry pie. Abide.
