Another day awaits. The Earth has rotated into the sun of April 18, 2021. I’m grateful to not worry about a job or rent of food. Most people are not as lucky as I am. There was some planning involved in reaching this place in my life but there was also a lot of luck involved. Today happens to be National Animal Crackers Day, National Transfer Money to Your Daughter’s Account Day, International Amateur Radio Day, Newspaper Columnists’ Day and PiƱata Day. None of these make me want to throw a party but I do like animal crackers. Now to the history of this day. In 1775 Paul Revere and William Dawes rode from Charlestown to Lexington warning the “regulars are coming!” On this day in 1861, fighting ceased in the American Revolution, eight years to the day when it began. In 1861, Colonel Robert E. Lee turned down the offer to command Union armies. As we now know, he made the wrong choice. On this day in 1879 the trial of Standing Bear-Crook on indian’s citizen rights began. Standing Bear won the right to become recognized under the law as a person entitled to civil rights. On this day in 1906 the San Francisco earthquake and fire killed nearly 4,000 while destroying 75% of the city. Finally, in 1924 the 1st crossword puzzle book published by Simon & Schuster. On this day in 1955, Albert Einstein stopped living. I’ll end this post with his wit and wisdom: “The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.” “Weak people revenge. Strong people forgive. Intelligent People Ignore.” And “Women always worry about things that men forget; men always worry about things women remember.” There’s a lot more but that’s enough for now. Have as great a day as I’m going to have. Abide.
