The 10th day of April 2021 has now arrived. Today there are several events worth celebrating: Golfer’s Day, Encourage A Young Writer’s Day, Global Work From Home Day, National Hug Your Dog Day, National Farm Animals Day, Siblings Day, and National Cinnamon Crescent Day. I suggest calling your brothers and/or sisters and wishing them a happy April 10th would be a good idea. Now some historical footnotes: On this day in 1516 the 1st Jewish ghetto was established in Venice when they compelled Jews to live in a specific area. This is the day in 1815 that Mount Tambura in the Dutch East Indies experienced a cataclysmic eruption, one of the most powerful in history, killing around 71,000 people, caused a global volcanic winter. In 1825, the 1st hotel in Hawaii opened. It was known as Major Warren’s Hotel and was also Hawaii’s first restaurant. In 1849 the safety pin patented by Walter Hunt of New York City . He sold rights to it for $400. On this day in 1866 the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) formed. In 1887, President Abraham Lincoln was re-buried with his wife in Springfield, Illinois. Finally, on this day in 1957 “12 Angry Men”, starring Henry Fonda and Lee J. Cobb, was released. This is one of my all time top 5 favorite films. I think I might watch it again today. This is the day in 1992 that Sam Kinison died in a car wreck at the age of 38. He said, “Folks, I’ve been straight for seventeen days… Not all in a row.” On the other end of the spectrum, this is the day that the poet Khaul Gibran stopped living. He said, “Tortoises can tell you more about the road than hares.” and “Our anxiety does not come from thinking about the future, but from wanting to control it.” Both of his quotes seem to be true. Now I’ll start my day. Hope yours will be as good as mine. Abide.
