It’s now March 4th, 2021. It has gone from the future to the present and will soon be the past. William Gibson said “Time moves in one direction, memory in another.” One of my goals is to collect as many good memories as possible. I hope to create a good one today. The Commission has decided that today is Hug A GI Day, Marching Music Day, National Dance the Waltz Day, National Sons Day, National Pound Cake Day, National Snack Day and Toy Solider Day. I will celebrate my son today. This day was the date when many of our Presidents were inaugurated. In 1793 on his second inauguration, Washington made the shortest speech (133 words) ever given. In 1841, William Henry Harrison gave the longest speech of 8,443 words. In 1918 on this date, the Spanish flu began at an Army camp in Kansas starting a worldwide pandemic killing 50 to 100 million people. In 1924 “Happy Birthday To You” was published by Claydon Sunny. Today is the birthday of the legendary football coach Knute Rockne. As with most famous coaches, most of his quotes are about winning and hard work. I like this one: “I’ve found that prayers work best when you have big players.” This is the day in 1996 that the world lost Minnie Pearl. I must admit that I was a fan of hers. She made me laugh.
