02.12.2021 is the sign post on our highway for this 24 hour period or the 1.6 million miles we will fly and spin through space. We orbit our Sun as our Sun orbits the Milky Way Galaxy. One orbit is called a “Cosmic Year” which takes around 250 million years. Earth will travel over 20,000 miles as I write this post. On this day we can celebrate the Chinese New Year, Hug Day, International Darwin Day, National Lost Penny Day, NAACP Day, National Freedom To Marry Day, Lincoln’s Birthday, Plum Pudding Day and Nobody Eats Alone Day. I’ve never eaten plum pudding. I should make that sometime. Moving on. This is the day in 1554 that Lady Jane Grey, Queen of England for 9 days was beheaded at the age of 15 for Treason. On this day in 1733 Georgia founded by James Oglethorpe, at the site where Savannah was built. One of my favorite cities to visit. In 1793 on this date the 1st US fugitive slave law passed which required return of escaped slaves. This is the day in 1825 that the Creek Indians signed a treaty to turn over all their land in Georgia to the government and to migrate West. In 1909 on this day the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was formed. On this day in 1938 the first ‘Kindertransport’ carrying Jewish refugee children from Nazi Germany arrived in Britain. Finally, this is the day in 1955 that Ike sent the first advisors to VietNam. Since today is Lincoln’s birthday, I will give you one of his quotes. “I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts.” This is the day that Immanuel Kant stopped living in 1804. He was one of the most influential figures in modern Western philosophy. He said, “Morality is not the doctrine of how we may make ourselves happy, but how we may make ourselves worthy of happiness.” I know that is a deep one but if you think about it, you’ll begin to understand it. Enough for this day. Abide.
