Yesterday was a good day to live. My expectation is that February 6, 2021 will be too. One of the steps to write this post is to look at the famous people who have died on this day. It is a daily reminder of my mortality. When I say that I’m grateful to be able to live this day, I really mean it. As I’ve said so many times, being grateful is a good way to start any day. February 6th is National Frozen Yogurt Day, Ice Cream For Breakfast Day, International Pisco Sour Day, Pay-a-Compliment Day, Lame Duck Day and Ronald Reagan Day. I’ll go with paying a compliment to as many people as I can today. Making someone feel good is a superpower we all have. Might as well use it occasionally. Now to what happened on this date. In 1820 the 1st organized emigration of blacks back to Africa began. New York City to Sierra Leone. In 1882, the society of the Knights of Columbus formed in New Haven, Connecticut. In 1894 the bottle opener was patented by William Painter. In 1911 the 1st old-age home was opened in Prescott, Arizona. In 1918 Great Britain granted women (30 & over) the right to vote. In 1935 the “Monopoly” board game went on sale for the 1st time. Finally, in 1968 on this date, former President Dwight Eisenhower shot a hole-in-one. This is the day that Bob Marley was born in 1945. This dred lock Rasta said, “Open your eyes, look within. Are you satisfied with the life you’re living?” That’s an excellent question. This is also the day in 1991 That Danny Thomas stopped living. Danny said, “Success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It’s what you do for others.” I think both quotes tie together nicely. Enough for this day. Abide.
