The Christmas of 2020 is now a memory. Hope your memory is a good one. I’ve experienced Christmas 75 times. I wish I could recall them all. Some are better than others but none of them were bad. They all had too much food and too many presents. I’m extremely fortunate to be able to say that. Now we start waiting for the vaccination and a return. There are a couple of interesting events for December 26th, 2019: National Whiner’s Day, Thank You Note Day, National Candy Cane Day and Boxing Day. The Whiner’s Day was created by Kevin Zaborney in 1986, “to encourage gratefulness for what we have rather than what we do not.” I’m in total agreement with Kevin. It is the corner stone upon which happiness is built. The Boxing Day is celebrated in many countries and is when gifts are given to the working class who provide services. Now to the way back machine: In 1620, Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Báthory’s crimes and serial murders are uncovered. She is believed to have killed over 600 women. A real life vampire. In 1854 on this date, wood-pulp paper is 1st exhibited in Buffalo NY. In 1865 James H Mason patents the 1st US coffee percolator. In 1877 the Socialist Labor Party of North America holds 1st national convention. Finally, on this date in 1963 the Beatles release “I Want To Hold Your Hand” and “I Saw Her Standing There” in the US. This is Steve Allen’s birthday. Steve was a comedian, writer and host of the Tonight Show. He said, “Ours is a government of checks and balances. The Mafia and crooked businessmen make out checks, and the politicians and other compromised officials improve their bank balances.” This is also the day in 1972 That Harry Truman dies at the age of 88. Harry said, “If you can convince them, confuse them. He also said, “If you want a friend in Washington, buy a dog”. Have a good day. I intend to. Abide.
