This day is December 14th 2020. I’m fully in the Christmas spirit because the Christmas songs haven’t started to drive me crazy yet. I’m sure that will happen in a couple of weeks. I wish my whole family could be together but that’s not possible. Usually we celebrate the past year. This Christmas we will celebrate the fact that 2020 is about to end. Looking forward to the promise of 2121. This is Monkey Day, Free Shipping Day, Green Monday, Roast Chestnuts Day and National Bouillabaisse Day. My pick is Bouillabaisse or fish stew in a tomato sauce. It’s one of my favorite fish dishes. Onto the history of this date: In 1542 Princess Mary Stuart succeeds her father James V and becomes Queen Mary I of Scotland at 6 days old. I know a little bit of the history of Mary Queen of Scots. After being held in custody for the last 18.5 years of her life, they cut off her head. In 1793, the 1st state road authorized. It was between Frankfort, Kentucky and Cincinnati. In 1812, the French invasion of Russia, led by Napoleon, officially ends with the French having lost as many as 530,000 people. In 1903 on this day the Wright brothers attempt to fly the Wright Flyer for the first time at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. In 1947 The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is founded in Daytona Beach, Florida. On this day in 1971 The Pakistan Army executes an estimated 1,111 of East Pakistan’s intellectuals during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Wow. This is the day in 1799 that George Washington died at the age of 66. I’ll end with some of his quotes: “Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence.” And “Few men have virtue to withstand the highest bidder.” You can think about those two quotes for a while. The end. Have a good day and be careful. Abide.
