December 9, 2020 has arrived. What I’d like to see is that everyone use today as an opportunity to be a better person. I wrote a song about second chances after I was nearly killed in a traffic accident that almost happened.   A head on around a curve with no one breaking. But that is another story. We have all flirted with death. What I took from that experience is the fact that every day I get another chance to be a better me. I admit I don’t always make it but each morning brings me a new chance. Today we celebrate December 9: Christmas Card Day, National Pastry Day, National Llama Day and Weary Willie Day. Weary Willie was the character that Emit Kelly made famous. I’m not a fan of clowns. There is something creepy about putting on makeup and transforming yourself into a persona that makes small children run for their lives. The Stephen King story didn’t help either. I will celebrate pastry with all of its flaky goodness. Now to history of this day. In 1854 this is the day that Alfred Lord Tennison’s “Charge of the light brigade is 1st published. Great poem you should look up and read it. In 1905 on this date the French Assembly National votes for separation of church & state. On this day in 1941, Hitler orders that US ships be torpedoed. 12.9.2020 isn’t a day where lots of interesting things happened. It is the day that Dame Edith Louisa Sitwell assumed temperature in 1964. She was a British Poet and Critic. I looked up her quotes and found a couple to share: “I am patient with stupidity but not with those who are proud of it.” and “The public will believe anything, so long as it is not founded on truth.” I think she’d be fun to hang around with. I will raise my mug of coffee and toast her life and sharp sense of humor. Wear the mask and Abide
