We have made it past Thanksgiving. It’s now the 28th day of November 2020. I try and make everyday a day of thanksgiving. I think that’s a part of aging or at least, my aging process. I wake up each day and remind myself how fortunate I am to be able to live my life. Caroline Dhavernas said, “When you realize how short life is, you ought to celebrate life even more.” I think she’s spot on. Today we have a short list of events: It’s National French Toast Day, International Aura Awareness Day, Letter Writing Day, Make Your Own Head Day (as in draw it), Red Planet Day, Small Business Saturday and Turkey Leftover Day. I don’t have any turkey leftover so I’ll go with French toast for breakfast. Now to the way back machine. On this day in 1729, Natchez Indians massacre 138 Frenchmen, 35 French women, and 56 children at Fort Rosalie, near the site of modern-day Natchez, Mississippi. This is the day in 1785 that the Treaty of Hopewell is signed between the Confederation Congress of the United States of America and the Cherokee people. The treaty gave rise to the sardonic Cherokee phrase of Talking Leaves, since they claimed that when the treaties no longer suited the Americans, they would blow away like talking leaves. On this day in 1893 women vote in a national election for the first time, in the New Zealand general election. Finally, this is the day in 1920 that the Kilmichael Ambush took place. If you’re Irish, this is one of the big battles of the Irish War of Independence. Today is William Blake’s birthday. William was an English poet born in London in 1837. He said, ““A good local pub has much in common with a church, except that a pub is warmer, and there’s more conversation”. That’s been my experience too. I’ve written enough for this day. Now I’m going to make some French Toast for breakfast and begin to celebrate my day. Be safe and Abide.
