We are in 11.21.2021. The weather forecast is wonderfully warm and sunny with a high of 79 degrees. Hard to beat that. I made a mistake this morning: I read the news. I don’t remember who said it but the quote is: “The world is an insane asylum run by the inmates.” Seems to be about right. It would be nice if the tribalism and Culture Wars stopped, but they won’t. They will only get worse. I can either worry about the world going to hell or enjoy the ride. I’m doing my best to eliminate “worry” because it does no good. I guess that means I will try to enjoy our ride to nihility. Today is Pumpkin Pie Day which is my pick. It’s also Alascattalo Day (fictional Alaskan animal?), False Confession Day, National Red Mitton Day, National Gingerbread Day, National Stuffing Day and Mother Goose Parade Day. Pumpkin pie isn’t my favorite pie but it’s still a pie. Now let’s see what happened back then: On this day in 1837 Thomas Morris of Australia skipped rope 22,806 times. I don’t know why. This is the day in 1918 that the German High Seas Fleet of 5 battlecruisers, 9 battleships, 7 cruisers and 49 destroyers surrendered to the British Grand Fleet. On this day in 1931, the horror film Frankenstein starring Boris Karloff was released. In 1967 on this day Phillip & Jay Kunz fly a kite a record 28,000 feet. Wow. This is the day in 1980 that John Lennon and Yoko Ono posed nude. Today is the birthday of Voltaire, the French philosopher who was born in 1694. He said, “Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” Does January 6th come to mind? Of all the French philosophers, I like Voltaire the best. Here are a few more gems: “The most important decision you make is to be in a good mood.” “The comfort of the rich depends upon an abundant supply of the poor.” “When in doubt if an action is good or bad, refrain.” “The more a man knows, the less he talks.” Abide.
