Today is the 18th day of November 2020. Another tic toc of the celestial clock. If this was your last day, looking back at your life, what would you be proud of? What memory would make you smile? It isn’t the money or the accumulation of material possessions. I think the best times in my life are about family, love, reputation and relationships. My hope is that when my time comes, I can look back and be satisfied with how I’ve used my time. That’s my goal. We have to wait, at least 20 more years I hope, to see if I’m successful. In the meantime, we have today which is Apple Cider Day, Mickey Mouse Day, National Education Support Professional’s Day, National Vichyssoise Day, Occult Day, National Princess Day and William Tell Day. I’ll go with the apple cider. Now to what happened on this day. In 1307, William Tell shot the apple off his son’s head on this date. On this day in 1865, Mark Twain publishes “Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”. On this day in 1902 Brooklyn toymaker Morris Michton names the teddy bear after US President Teddy Roosevelt. On this day in 1916 British General Douglas Haig finally calls off the 1st Battle of the Somme in World War I after more than 1 million soldiers had been killed or wounded. Wow. Speaking of wars, this is the day in 1961 that JFK sends 18,000 military advisors to Viet Nam. This is the day in 1797 that Sojourner Truth was born. She was an abolitionist and feminist who said, “We do as much, we eat as much, we want as much.” This is also Dorthey Dix birthday (1861). She was a journalist and columnist who said, “It is a queer thing, but imaginary troubles are harder to bear than actual ones.” Some truth in that. She also said, “I have learned to live each day as it comes, and not to borrow trouble by dreading tomorrow.” Smart lady. I’m done. Abide.
