We are now in the time/space designated as November 14, 2021. We will travel 1.6 million miles today at a speed of 66,627 mph on this round ball with its thin layer of atmosphere that we call home. We should be doing a better job of taking care of it because it’s the only one we’ve got or will ever have. But, it is what it is and humans are who they are. Today is Loosen Up, Lighten Up Day, National American Teddy Bear Day, National Family PJ Day, National Spicy Guacamole Day (my pick) and National Pickle Day which is a close second choice. Here’s food hack hint: If you buy the avocados when they’re just turning soft, they’re usually half price. Buy them, cut them up and freeze them and use them for future spicy guacamole. Now to our history of this day. On this day in 1666, the first blood transfusion was made between two dogs. On this day in 1856 Gail Borden was issued a patent for technology related to his invention of condensed milk. This is the day in 1908, Albert Einstein presented his quantum theory of light. On this day in 1935 Nazis deprived German Jews of their citizenship. On this day in 1960 a riot took place in New Orleans because of school integration. This is Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday. He was a leader of the Indian independence movement. He said ”Let us be a little humble; let us think that the truth may not perhaps be entirely with us” and “Ignorance is always afraid of change.” This is the day in 1716 that the German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Lebniz died at the age of 74. He said “To love is to delight in the happiness of another” and “A great doctor kills more people than a great general.” That says a lot about the practice of doctoring in the 1700s and gives us another reason to be grateful that we live our lives now, instead of then. With that, I’ll start my day. Abide.
