We’ve made it through October and now it’s November 1st, 2020. Yikes. Politics and pandemic. Life goes on and come Thanksgiving, I’m sure we will have plenty to be thankful about. I doubt it will measure up to the one we had in 2019. We truly didn’t know how good it was then. That’s the past and today in the present. It’s All Saints Day, Give Up Your Shoulds Day, National Cinnamon Day, National Calzone Day, National Vinegar Day, World Vegan Day and National Deep Fried Clams Day. A calzone works for me but I probably won’t make one today. Now to the history of this day. In 1348 the Black Death reaches London on or about this date. In 1512 on this day, Michelangelo’s paintings on ceiling of Sistine Chapel in the Vatican first exhibited. This is the day in 1800 that John Adams becomes the first US President to live in the White House. On this day in 1950 Puerto Rican nationalists try to kill US President Harry Truman at Blair House. In 1955 a time bomb aboard United DC-6 kills 44 above Longmont, Colorado. The bomb was planted by Jack Graham to kill his mother and get her life insurance. He went to the gas chamber in 1957. This is the day in 1999 that Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton stopped living at the age of 45. I’ll end this post with a couple of quotes from Walter: “Remember, tomorrow is promised to no one”. “All people, regardless of whether they’re athletes or not, should treat people the way they want to be treated.” Time to start this day. Stay safe and be sure to abide.
