What a difference a year makes. On October 27, 2019 I was writing about how much fun I had at the Parrot Head Club’s Halloween Party that happened the night before. It’s now 10.27.2020 and we can’t do what we did last year. If we tried, we’d be featured on the national news. I hope to be back to that time again where masks and social distancing are no longer needed. We have a good list for today. It just happens to be American Beer Day. It’s also National Potato Day, Navy Day, National Black Cat Day and Boxer Shorts Day. In the history of this day, in 1682 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is founded by William Penn. In 1775 the US Navy forms as the Continental Navy which is why it’s Navy Day. In 1810, the United States annexes West Florida from Spain. In 1925 water skis are patented by Fred Waller. Finally, in 1947 “You Bet Your Life” with Groucho Marx premieres on ABC radio. I like Groucho’s style. Here’s a couple of quotes: “Please accept my resignation. I don’t care to belong to any club that will have me as a member.” and “I remember the first time I had sex, I kept the receipt”. This happens to be John Cleese’s (monty python) birthday. I happen to be a big python fan. This is also the birthday of John Gottie, head of the Gambino family. And this is the date in 1973 that Allan “Rocky” Lane assumed room temperature. If you’re a fan of early Western movies, you may know who he is. You know his voice because he was the voice of Mr. Ed. That’s it for this day. Do with it what you will. I plan on pursing happiness.
