The mile marker says 10.21.2021. Each day a new one appears. Mike Murdock said, “The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.” I’ve made writing this post a daily ritual. It helps me to live in the moment, be grateful for what I have and reminds me of my own mortality. I hope my routine helps you to start your day, which happens to be Apple Day, Back To The Future Day, Garbanzo Bean Day, Celebration Of The Mind Day, Count Your Buttons Day, National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day and my pick, International Day Of The Nacho. Now to the historical part of this post: On this day in 335, Roman Emperor Constantine ruled that Jews are not allowed to purchase and circumcise Christian slaves. On this day in 1869 the 1st shipment of fresh oysters was sent overland from Baltimore. This is the day in 1917 that the 1st Americans saw action on front lines of WWI at Summerville under French command. This is the day in 1945 that women in France were allowed to vote for 1st time. On this day in 1967 tens of thousands of anti-Vietnam War protesters marched on the Pentagon. I believe that the blowback from Vietnam caused the country to drop the draft and go to a volunteer military. Today was a tough day to find quotes to use to end this post with. The only one I found that resonates with me is from James Leo Herlihy who died on this date in 1993. He said, “Be yourself. No one can ever tell you you’re doing it wrong”. Now I’m ready to live the rest of this day. Abide.
