The earth has flown into the time/space of October 17, 2020. We’re just passing through. No spectacular events are planned but one never knows what may happen. Life is like that. It can change in an instant. It can end in an instant. That’s why it’s wrong to take a day for granted. I’m sure we can find something to celebrate today. It’s Bridge Day, Forgive An X Day, Four Prunes Day, International Day For The Eradication Of Poverty Day, Mulligan Day, Day Of The Sloth, National Pasta Day (my pick), Wear Something Gaudy Day and Sweetest Day. Now let’s stroll down history lane and see what happened on this day. In 1660 Nine Regicides, the men who signed the death warrant of Charles I, are hanged, drawn and quartered, another is hanged. The term “Regicides” is someone who has caused the death of a monarch. The also put their heads on pikes for public display. The English really knew how to execute people. On this day in 1894 the Ohio national guard kills 3 lynchers while rescuing a black man. This is the day in 1920 the Chicago Bears (as Decatur Staleys) play 1st NFL game and win 7-0. This is the day in 1933 that Albert Einstein arrives in US as a refugee from Nazi Germany. This is the birthday of the dare devil Evil Knievel who said, “Anybody can jump a motorcycle. The trouble begins when you try to land it.” This is the day that the civil rights icon Ralph Abernathy died of a blood clot at the age of of 64 in 1990. Ralph said, “I went to jail 44 times. I’ve been beaten and left for dead on the side of the road fighting for freedom… Yet Rosa Parks is better known in history than Ralph David Abernathy. Why is that?” That’s a fair question with no good answer. There you have it. No theme today just a bunch of random facts. Sometimes that’s just the way it turns out. Have a good one and try and make today good for someone else in your life. You have the power. Abide.
