We are now in the space time designated as the 16th day of October, 2020. The quote of the day comes from John W. Gardner who said “life is the art of drawing without an eraser”. I guess that means that you don’t get a second chance on making today a good one. Let’s see what the fine folks at the Commission have selected to recognize today: National Cat Day, National Boss Day, National Mammography Day, National Department Store Day, Love Your Body Day, National Cut Up Your Credit Card Day, Steve Jobs Day, National Liqueur Day and World Food Day. I don’t think anyone really “loves” their body. Some of us accept it but even the beautiful people find things wrong with themselves. But, everyone likes Liqueur so I’ll go with that. Now onto historical events of this day: In 1869, a hotel in Boston becomes 1st to have indoor plumbing. This is the day in 1916 that Margret Sanger opens the 1st birth control clinic in Brooklyn. In 1925, the Texas School Board prohibits teaching of evolution. In 1962 the Cuban missile crisis begins as JFK is shown photos confirming the presence of Soviet missiles in Cuba. Finally, in 1992 “Gilligan’s Island” TV pilot filmed in 1964 is shown on TV. I enjoyed that show. On this day in 1854, Oscar Wilde began life. He was an author and a poet and you know that poets have the very best quotes: “Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.” “I resist everything but temptation”. And the last one “Experience is simply the name we give to our mistakes”. Now you have today’s post. Hope you enjoyed the effort. I did. That’s why I do it. Abide.
