We have reached the 14th day of October 2021. It’s time for me to establish my attitude for today. I’m grateful for what I have. I’m happy with who I am. I will make someone smile today. Done. You can’t have a good day if you start out with a bad attitude. That’s one of my quotes. Let’s see what the commission has in store for us this day: It’s Be Bald And Be Free Day, National Chocolate Covered Insect Day, National FRUMP Day (Frugal, Responsible, Unpretentious, Mature Persons Day) and National Dessert Day. I will have a dessert today. Now to history. On this day in 1066 the Normans invaded England and the Battle of Hastings was fought. It lasted from 9 in the morning until dusk and 6,000 people died. Swords, spears, battle axes and arrows. Wow. On this day in 1834 the first African-American was granted a US patent, Henry Blair, for a corn planter. On this same day in Philadelphia, Whigs and Democrats fought each other with guns, stones and bricks for control of a township election, resulting in one death, several injuries, and the burning down of a block of buildings. It seems that hard fought elections are part of our history. This is the day in 1865 that the Cheyenne & Arapahos signed a “peace treaty” and then are promptly chased out of Colorado.
