Here we are in the 12th day of October 2020. Yesterday is now a memory. I got as much out of it as I could and now it’s gone forever. On this day we can celebrate the Native American Day, Indigenous People’s Day, Free Thought Day, International Moment Of Frustrated Scream Day, National Chess Day, National Motorcycle Ride Day, Old Farmer’s Day, Pulled Pork Day and National Gumbo Day. It’s gumbo for me. I’m a big fan of spicy Louisiana cuisine. On this day in 1609, the children’s rhyme “Three Blind Mice” published in London. Most of the English children’s rhymes were political statements. Humpty Dumpty wasn’t about an egg. It was about a large cannon used during the English civil war. The three blind mice is thought to be about the persecution of three protestant priests by Queen Mary I. In 1773, America’s first asylum opens for ‘Persons of Insane and Disordered Minds’ in Virginia. 1900, the first modern submarine is commissioned by the U.S. Navy as the USS Holland, named for its designer John Philip Holland. 1901, Theodore Roosevelt renames the “Executive Mansion” as “The White House”. That would make a good multiple choice trivia question. Finally, 1979 Larry Bird plays his first game for the Celtics and Magic Johnson makes his debut for Los Angeles Lakers. What great basketball we were able to watch. First a quote from Larry: “I’ve got a theory that if you give 100% all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.” Now Magic: “Just celebrate the life you had, not the life you could’ve had.” I think the difference between Larry and Magic is that Magic had more natural talent but Larry worked harder. That’s about it for today. It’s going to be a good one for me. Hope for you too. Abide
