The earth is now in the time/space of October 7, 2020. This round rock with a thin atmosphere flying through space is home. It appears that Hurricane Delta is headed for the Big Easy and that’s not good. Hope the levees keep Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi out of the 9th ward. Florida will dodge the bullet again but we’ll feel sorry for those people in the path. Let’s see what we have to celebrate today: It’s Balloons Around The World Day, Bathtub Day, National Flower Day, National Day Of Forgiveness And Happiness Day, National Frappe Day, National Kale Day, Random Acts Of Poetry Day, You Matter To Me Day and National Pumpkin Seed Day. I’ll go with Kale. Yippi. On this day in 3761 BC is the epoch (origin) of the modern Hebrew calendar. That’d 5,781 years ago but only a wee bit when you consider mankind has been here for 6 million years. On this day in 1501 is the 1st public burning of books in the Netherlands. I would like to point out that books were hard to make back then. This is the day in 1571 that the battle of Lepanto was fought. It was a navel battle and 3,800 people died. It’s called the battle that saved Europe. This is the day in 1916 that Georgia Tech defeats Cumberland, 222-0 which is the most lopsided score in the history of US college football. Today is Desmond Tutu’s birthday. He was the Anglican Archbishop of South Africa and 1984 Nobel Peace Prize winner. He said, “When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said ‘Let us pray.’ We closed our eyes. When we opened them we had the Bible and they had the land.” This is the day that Edgar Allan Poe stopped living at the age of 40. He said, “Man is now only more active – not more happy – nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.” I agree with him. Well, that’s all for today. Do what you will with the time you have left. Stay safe and Abide.
