It is now the 23rd day of September 2020. My first thought was that someone said that what we are going through now is “the worst it’s ever been”. One thing that writing this post gives me is a perspective of Western civilization. This isn’t the worst its ever been, it’s the way it’s always been. None of this chaos is new, it’s just our turn to experience it. The good news is, humans have always survived the periodic chaos and for the most part, been slightly better for having lived through it. We have along list today without out much to celebrate: We can Celebrate Bisexuality Day which is fine if you happen to float your boat that way. It’s also Innergize Day, International Day Of Sign Languages, National Checkers Day, National Snack Stick Day, National Great American Pot Pie Day and National Dogs In Politics Day. I’m going with the pot pies because my mother used to buy the cheap Banquet pot pies to have on hand. As I remember, they were pretty good. On this date in 1821, Greek forces massacre 30,000 Turks during Greek War of Independence when Tripolitsa falls. Let that sink in. 30,000 people murdered. In 1938 on this date a time capsule, to be opened in 6939, buried at World’s Fair in NYC (capsule contained a woman’s hat, man’s pipe & 1,100′ of microfilm). Let’s all hope that there will be someone here to open it. On this day in 1957 a white mob forces 9 black students enrolled at Little Rock’s Central High School in Arkansas to withdraw and in response, President Eisenhower orders US troops to support integration of nine black students at Little Rock Central High School in Arkansas. This is the day in 480 b.c. that the Roman poet Euripides was born. He said, “Love is all we have, the only way that each can help the other.” This is the day that the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda passed at the age of 69. Pablo said, ” To feel the love of people whom we love is a fire that feeds our life.” Maybe the power of love can help us rise above the chaos as we pursue happiness. Abide.
