It’s finally here. The earth has been waiting 4.543 billion years for September 17, 2020. Was it worth it? With the chaos going on, I’m not so sure. But, we’ve had some sort of chaos going on for a long time. Some were a lot worse then the inconvenience of the covid pandemic. Take the Bubonic plague that was fatal in about 50-70% of the untreated cases. Compared to that, this is a cake walk. We have a great list of potential events to celebrate today. It’s National Apple Dumpling Day, National Monte Cristo Day, National Professional House Cleaners Day, National Shuffleboard Day and Constitution Day. My web site says it’s also Free Queso Day at Moes but you better call ahead. This is the day in 1787 that the US Constitution is signed by delegates at the Philadelphia Convention. On this day in 1862 the Battle of Antietam which was the bloodiest day in the American Civil War leaves 22,000 dead, wounded or missing in first battle on Union soil. This is the day in 1900 that coal miners go out on strike for better wages. This was a very big deal at the time because winter was on the way and there was an election in early November. The miners won and the strike ended on Oct. 29th. In 1934 on this day, RCA Victor releases 1st 33 1/3 rpm recording which is Beethoven’s 5th. This is the day in 1743 that the French philosopher Marquis de Condorcet was born. I’ll end this post with a quote from the Marquis: “Enjoy your own life without comparing it with that of another for there will always be others whose lives on the face of it appear better. However just remember and focus on the fact that your life could be much worse and be grateful it isn’t. No matter what others or even you may briefly think you are lucky things aren’t worse so be grateful”. I would remind you that the path to happiness begins with gratitude. Abide.
