It’s now the 4th day of September 2020 and I’m trapped on this ball of rock flying through space at 448,000 miles per hour protected by a thin atmosphere from radiation and temperature that would kill me in a few seconds. Since we appear to be alone in the Universe, I’m happy to stay right here, sitting in front of my computer, starting my day. I intend to celebrate Eat an Extra Dessert Day. You can either join me or pick one of these: Bring Your Manners to Work Day, College Colors Day, National Food Bank Day, National Macadamia Nut Day, National Wildlife Day, Wear Teal Day or National Lazy Mom’s Day. Now to the way back machine: This is the day in 1609 that Henry Hudson becomes the first European to discover the island of Manhattan. On this day in 1781 that Los Angeles is founded. In 1886 on this day Apache Chief Geronimo surrenders ending last major US-Indian war. This is the day in 1888 that George Eastman patents the first roll-film camera & registers “Kodak”. And for you golfers, this date in 1949 Marie Robie sinks 393 yd hole-in-one which is the 1st hole Furnace Brook G C in Quincy MA. The course has been changed over the years. The 1st hole is now 371 from the tips. Today is Paul Harvey’s (the rest of the story) birthday (1918). Paul said, “In times like these, it helps to recall that there have always been times like these.” He also said, “Like what you do. If you don’t like it, do something else.” Good advice I think. So that’s it for this day. Make of it what you will. Abide.
