August is now gone. It disappeared last night. The earth has now rotated into the time/space of September 2020. This is the 1st day of this journey. We have a food fight, better known as a Presidential Election, a once in a lifetime pandemic, hurricane season and the makings of a 2nd great depression. What could possibly go wrong? I’m going to try and look on the bright side if I can find it. I plan to search for good news every day of this month. This day is American Chess Day, Chicken Boy’s Day (it’s a statue in LA), Emma M. Nutt Day (1st female telephone operator), Ginger Cat Appreciation Day, National Cherry Popover Day, National No Rhyme or Reason Day, Pink Cadillac Day and National Tofu Day. I’m one of those people who like tofu but I’d pick the cheery popover in head to head competition. This is the day in 1752 that the Liberty Bell arrives in Philadelphia. In 1894 on this day a wildfire destroys the town of Hinckley, Minnesota, killing 438 people. This is the day in 1897 that the Boston subway opens, becoming the first underground rapid transit system in North America. On this day in 1923 a magnitude 7.9 earthquake strikes Tokyo and Yokohama in Japan, killing 142,000 people. Today is the birthday (1923) of Rocky Marciano, undefeated world heavyweight champion 1952-56. Rocky said, “What could be better than walking down any street in any city and knowing you’re the heavyweight champion of the world?” I didn’t find anyone who died on this date that produced a good quote. When I searched on “Death” I came up with this by Groucho Marx “I intend to live forever, or die trying.” Me too Groucho. Me too. Now, go find some good news and then tell me where you found it. Abide.
