We’re nearing the end of July. It’s now the 27th day of this ugly, not very good month. Hurricane Hanna landed in Texas, blew down part of “the wall” and crossed into Mexico. We’ve got another big red X in the Atlanta to start watching. The chaos continues as we all knew it would. Welcome to today. It’s not as bad as it could be. We aren’t in worst case land. There are reasons to say yippi! I’ll start with my celebratory event of this day. Drum roll please…….. National Scotch Day! If that isn’t something you like, you do have other options: Bagpipe Appreciation Day, National Chicken Finger Day, National Crème Brûlée Day, Walk on Stilts Day and Take Your Pants For A Walk Day. Now let us see what happened on the 27th day of July: On this day in 1377 the first example of a quarantine in what is now Dubroknik, Croatia when the city council passed a law saying newcomers from plague areas must isolation for 30 days. This is the day in 1789 that the US Congress establishes the Department of Foreign Affairs which is now referred to as the State Department. On this day in 1953, North Korea and the United Nations sign armistice to stop fighting and divide Korea at the 38th parallel. And on this day in 1962 Martin Luther King Jr. is jailed in Albany, Georgia. This is the day in 2003 that Bob Hope stopped living at the age of 100. Bob said, “I have seen what a laugh can do. It can transform almost unbearable tears into something bearable, even hopeful.” That’s enough for this post. Now I’m going to start reading about what happened in the last 18 hours. Hope you can find some happiness. I’m going to try to do that. Abide.
