The clock now reads July 23, 2020. Another day of social distancing is upon us. The bad news is, I’m getting used to it. I see a group of unmasked people together and it makes me a little uncomfortable and a little jealous. I’m sure that once we get the green light of a vaccine, I’ll be back to normal in a day or two. Probably just a defense mechanism at work. Humans are resilient. Today we have a decent list of celebratory events. It’s Gorgeous Grandma Day, Hot Enough For Ya Day?, National Refreshment Day, Sprinkle Day, National Vanilla Ice Cream Day, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Day and Yada, Yada, Yada Day. I now have an excuse for ice cream with chocolate and peanut butter. Yum. I often point out that the Jews of Europe were continually persecuted. On this day in 1253 Jews are expelled from Vienne France. In 1298 on this day the Jewish community in Wurzburg Germany is massacred which is the beginning of the Rindfleisch Persecution. They could not catch a break. Moving on. This is the day in 1827 that the 1st US swimming school opens in Boston, Massachusetts. This is the day in 1904 that the Ice cream cone is created during St Louis World Fair. And, on this day in 1968 the race riot in Cleveland occurred and 11 people including 3 police officers are killed. Today is the birthday (1892) of Haile Selassie, Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974. He said, “We must become bigger than we have been: more courageous, greater in spirit, larger in outlook. We must become members of a new race, overcoming petty prejudice, owing our ultimate allegiance not to nations but to our fellow men within the human community.” I’ll end this post on that quote. I like it. Now it’s all up to you. Wear the damn mask and Abide.
