A new day is here. July 22, 2020. We’ve got choices. We can engage or disengage. Be aware or be unaware. Be principled or shrug and go with the flow. The saying “ignorance is bliss” is true. I’m too curious to choose the latter but I’ve also developed the ability to compartmentalize and move on. But, new day and what you do with it is your choice. We can pick something to celebrate because it is Hammock Day, Lion’s Share Day, Mango Day, Pi Approximation Day, National Penuche Fudge Day, National Hot Dog Day and National Rat Catcher Day. Did you know that rats giggle when you tickle them? They do. I’ll take hot dogs but rats are a close second. 1796 on this day, Cleveland, Ohio is founded. Originally called ‘Cleaveland, the public adopted the current name after a newspaper editor noticed the name was too long to fit on the page. This is this day in 1864 when the battle of Atlanta: is fought. 8,449 Confederate and 3,641 US casualties. This is the day in 1934 outside Chicago’s Biograph Theatre, “Public Enemy No. 1” John Dillinger is shot by FBI agents. Finally, on this day in 1975 the US House of Representatives votes to restore citizenship to General Robert E. Lee. Today is the birthday (1849) of Emma Lazarus, American poet. Emma said, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” Yes, her words on on the Statue of Liberty. I already told you that Dillinger died on this day. Here’s a quote from him, “My buddies wanted to be firemen, farmers or policemen, something like that. Not me, I just wanted to steal people’s money!” It’s always good to have a goal. Now, the rest of the day is yours. Do something with it. Abide
