We have landed in July 13 2020. It’s the start of a new week that will be filled with chaos and they all are now. Whether and how much you choose to participate in it is mostly up to you. You can choose to ignore it and distract yourself with other activities. The Dali Lama said, “If something can be fixed, there’s no need to worry. If something can’t be fixed, worrying will do no good”. It isn’t easy to have this philosophy but it’s possible. I’m going to start by looking for something to celebrate. It’s Barbershop Music Appreciation Day, Beans And Franks Day, Embrace Your Geekness Day, Fools Paradise Day, International Town Criers Day, Go West Day and National French Fry Day. I’m leaning toward the Beans and Franks day. That just sounds good to me. This is the day in 1568 that the Dean of St. Paul’s in London perfects a way to bottle beer. This is the day in 1863 that the Anti-draft riots started in New York City. A new Federal Law had been passed which made all male citizens between 20 and 35 and all unmarried men between 35 and 45 subject to military duty. Around 1,000 people were killed. On this day in1923 the Hollywood Sign is officially dedicated in the hills above Hollywood, Los Angeles. It originally reads “Hollywoodland but the four last letters are dropped after renovation in 1949. This is the day in 100 BC that Julius Caesar, Roman military and political leader, born in Rome. He said, “Men in general are quick to believe that which they wish to be true.” This is also the birthday (1934) of 1934 of Wole Soyinka, Nigerian playwright and poet who said, “The greatest threat to freedom is the absence of criticism.” Both quotes seem to me to be true. That wraps up another daily post. It’s a good way for me to start my day. Hope you enjoy it too. Abide
