We’ve reached June 26 2020. There may be some light at the end of this tunnel. We seem to be getting better at treating this virus. At my age, that’s good. I still don’t plan/want to catch it but my odds of survival are better now. Hope springs eternal. Today is Beautician’s Day and since I haven’t had a haircut in 4 months, I’m a little over due to see one. It’s also Forgiveness Day and we should all do some of that. It’s Canoe Day if you’re in Canada, National Food Truck Day, National Chocolate Pudding Day and my pick: Tropical Cocktails Day. Easy choice for me. This is the day in 1498 that the toothbrush is invented in China using boar bristles. On this day in 1721 Dr Zabdiel Boylston gives the 1st smallpox inoculations in America. This day in 1797 Charles Newbold patents 1st cast-iron plow. Farmers fear the effects of iron on soil but they got over it. This is the day in 1917 that the 1st US troops arrive in France during World War I. They brought the “Spanish Flu” with them. It should have been named the Kansas Flu because that’s where it started. Lastly, on this day in 1977 Elvis Presley sings in Indianapolis, the last performance of his career. Today is Derek Jeter’s Birthday (1974). Derek said, “I have the greatest job in the world. Only one person can have it. You have shortstops on other teams – I’m not knocking other teams – but there’s only one shortstop on the Yankees.” Staying with the game of baseball, this is the day that Dodger Pitcher Roy Campanella stopped living at the age of 71. Roy said, “I never want to quit playing ball. They’ll have to cut this uniform off of me to get me out of it.” My musings are over for this day. Stay safe, wear the damn mask and Abide.
