Is the earth rotated into the time /space of June 13, 2020. We just watched a space launch at 5:21 this morning. A launch before sunrise is spectacular. That makes this day memorable. For those of you who were not as lucky, this day is national kitchen klutzes of America day, National Rose wine day, Weed your garden day, sewing machine day, world softball day and world Gin day. I’ll go with a gin and tonic for today. Now let’s jump in the way back machine and find out what this day is famous for. On this day in 1774 Rhode Island becomes the first colony to prohibit importation of slaves. On this day in 1789 Mrs. Alexander Hamilton serves ice cream for dessert to Washington. Probably vanilla. On this day in 1920 US post office says children cannot be sent by parcel post. A few had been sent. Finally, on this day in 1927 a ticker tape parade in New York City welcomes Charles Lindbergh back from his flight to Paris. This is the day in 1903 that Harold Red Grange, who was known as the galloping ghost of football was born. Red said, “ I haven’t seen a new football place since I was in high school. You have just so many holes in a line and you have 11 men playing.“ Not much passing offense in Red’s day. This is also the day in 2008 that Tim Russert from Meet the Press stops living at the age of 58. Tim said, “ The best exercise for the human heart is reaching down to lift someone else up“. And, “We can be for peace without supporting the enemy. We can be against this war without rooting for the other side.” We don’t have enough people like him today. Now going to pack up and head home.
