The earth has now moved into the time/space of June 11, 2020. As I do each morning, I’ve pulled up the National Hurricane Center web site to find that we have a tropical disturbance half way between the US and Africa. Yikes. Maybe nothing, maybe something. Need to keep watching it. Outside of that, this day appears to have it’s normal chaos which we’ve become used to. The Commission has designed a few events to celebrate today: It’s Corn On The Cobb Day, Cousteau Day, King Kamehameha Day (Hawaii), National Making Life Beautiful Day and German Chocolate Cake Day. Always go with chocolate. Yum. This is the day in 1742 Benjamin Franklin invents his Franklin stove. On this day in 1837 the Broad Street Riot occurs in Boston, fueled by ethnic tensions between English-Americans and Irish-Americans. This is day in 1939 that the King and Queen of England taste their 1st “hot dog” at FDR’s party. On this day in 1963 Gov. Wallace tries to prevent blacks from registering at University of Alabama. This is Gene Wilder’s birthday (1933) who is one of my favorite actors. He said this about his late wife Gilda Radner, “I’m not so funny. Gilda was funny. I’m funny on camera sometimes. In life, once in a while. Once in a while. But she was funny. ” Gilda said this about Gene, “I had been a fan of Gene Wilder’s for many years, but the first time I saw him in person, my heart fluttered – I was hooked. It felt like my life went from black and white to Technicolor.” I suggest some chocolate cake today, or at least something with chocolate in it. Try and make today special because it will only come this one time. Stay safe and Abide.
