May 2020 is starting to wind down. This is the 28th day of it. Soon we will enter the time/space of June. It will be new, fresh and unused. Every day is like that because we are flying through space ever outward. While new, we celebrate certain things every 365 days. Today we celebrate International Hamburger Day, Amnesty International Day, The Slugs Return From Capistrano Day and National Brisket Day. Not a long list but a good one. Did you know that the top speed of a slug is between 5 and 6 inches a minute? Now to the “what happened” on May 28th: This is the day in 1830 that President Andrew Jackson signs the Indian Removal Act, authorizing the Army to force Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole tribes out of Georgia and surrounding states, setting the stage for the Cherokee Trail of Tears. On this day in 1863 that the 1st black regiment (54 Mass) leaves Boston to fight in US Civil War. To put this in context, if a black solider was caught by Confederate forces they were either enslaved or executed. This is the day in 1929 that the 1st all color talking picture “On With the Show” was shown in New York City. This is the day in 1945 that Hunter “Patch” Adams was born. He is the doctor that Robin Williams played in the movie “Patch Adams” Patch said, “At the age of 18, I made up my mind to never have another bad day in my life. I dove into a endless sea of gratitude from which I’ve never emerged.” This is the day in 2014 that Maya Angelou took the off ramp of life. She said, “At the end of the day people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.” Both of those quotes are insightful. A good way to end this post. Abide
