It is now the 16the day of May. The country is now open and the experiment has begun. Infections will either go down, stay at the same rate or go up. We will know in a couple of weeks. I’m hoping the small company (Sorrento Therapeutics) that claimed they found a cure, has found a cure. We’ll know soon. In the meantime, it’s Love A Tree Day, National Coquilles St. Jacques Day, Learn To Swim Day, National Mimosa Day, National Sea Monkey Day, National Wear Purple for Peace Day, World Fiddle Day and (drum roll) World Whisky Day!! I’ll pick whisky to celebrate today. This is the day in 1866 that the US Congress authorized the nickel 5 cent piece to replace the silver half-dime. Also, on this same day, Charles E. Hires invents “Hires Root Beer”. On this day in 1918 The Sedition Act of 1918 was passed by the U.S. Congress, making criticism of the government a crime punishable by a fine of $10,000 or imprisonment for not more than twenty years, or both. The Act was repealed by Congress in 1921. Wow. Finally, this is the day in 1965 that the Campbell Soup Company introduced SpaghettiOs. This happens to be Liberace’s birthday (1919). He said, “When the reviews are bad I tell my staff that they can join me as I cry all the way to the bank.” This is also the day in 1990 that Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets died at the age of 55. He said, “Life’s like a movie, write your own ending.” I like that. Have a glass of whisky today, keep your fingers crossed and your hands washed. Abide.
