We have reached the time/space of May 11. 2020 which is a strange place to be. We are at a fork in the road with no signs and no map. No way to tell which path leads to a better destination. Stay inside or try to return to normal? How do I decide? Flip a coin? Throw a golf tee in the air and let it point to one side or the other? Maybe I’ll keep doing what I’m doing and make a decision tomorrow. Today is Eat What You Want Day, Hostess Cupcake Day, National Women’s Check-Up Day and National Twilight Zone Day. The Twilight Zone remains one of my favorite shows. Those cupcakes were yummy. Haven’t had one in years. This history of today has a few footnotes of interest. On this day in 1751 Pennsylvania Hospital founded by Dr. Thomas Bond and Benjamin Franklin. It is still in operation. This is the day in 1928 that General Electric opens 1st TV-station in Schenectady, NY. Makes sense that you have to have a TV station before you can start selling TVs. In 1929 the 1st regularly scheduled TV broadcasts, 3 nights per week, began. Finally, on this day in 1969 British comedy troupe Monty Python forms, made up of Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin. Today is Irving Berlin’s birthday (1888). He said, “Life is 10 percent what you make it, and 90 percent how you take it.” This is also the day that John D. Rockefeller Jr. stopped living at the age of 86. Known for his philanthropy, he said, “Think of giving not as a duty but as a privilege.” Good way to think about it. So that’s it. Maybe I’ll watch some Monty Python today. The Dead Parrot skit or the Cheese Shop? Maybe the Academy of Silly Walks. All good. Have an excellent day and be sure to Abide.
