This morning we begin to live 04.20.2020. One of the benefits of social isolation is that now we have the chance to appreciate how great our lives were before this happened. We took the social aspects of our lives for granted. I tried not to but I did. I really do miss the company of my friends. The Commission has a short list for today. It’s Lima Bean Respect Day, National Cheddar Fries Day, Look Alike Day, Volunteer Recognition Day, Patriots Day and Pineapple Upside Down Cake Day. I’ll celebrate the upside down cake. Yum. On this day in 1887 the world’s 1st motor race was held in France. Georges Bouton wins in a steam-powered quadricycle. In 1918 on this day Manfred von Richthofen, aka The Red Baron, shoots down his 79th and 80th victims marking his final victories before his death the following day. This day in 1946 the 1st baseball radio broadcast is made in Chicago, Cards vs Cubs. Finally, on this day in 1962 the New Orleans Citizens Company gives free 1-way rides to blacks to move North. Never knew that. This is Hitler’s birthday (1889). He said, “The victor will never be asked if he told the truth.” This is also the day in 1992 that the British comedian Benny Hill dies at the age of 68 from a heart attack. Benny said, “Do unto others, then run”. Sound advice. That’ it for this day. Stay safe. Abide
