We had a full moon this night. The sun isn’t up yet and so I thought I’d pass that fact on to all of you who sleep until the sun wakes you up. I have always enjoyed watching the sun paint the sky. It’s April 8th, 2020. That means it’s once again Dog Farting Awareness Day. I’m not making this up. It’s also Draw A Picture Of A Bird Day. I’m not sure why that activity gets a day. The rest are International Day of Pink, National Empanada Day, International Feng Shui Awareness Day and Zoo Lovers Day. Pick one and have a party. Now to history. On this day in 1766, the 1st fire escape patented. It was a wicker basket on a pulley with a chain. In 1879 on this day, milk sold in glass bottles for 1st time. This is the day in 1935 that the Works Progress Administration (WPA) was approved by Congress. FDR was elected in 1932. The WPA was the American New Deal agency, employing millions of job-seekers to carry out public works projects. The cost was $4.9 billion dollars. An interesting footnote since we might be headed back to 1932 levels of unemployment. This is the birthday (1892) of the silent screen actress Mary Pickford. She said, “You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing that we call ‘failure’ is not the falling down, but the staying down.” This is the day in 1973 that Pablo Picasso died. He said, “My mother said to me, ‘If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope.’ Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso.” I like both quotes. Stay safe today. Just because you’re bored, don’t chances on catching this. Take life a day at a time. Be sure to Abide.
