I was in the Navy for 4 years. Sometimes we would be at sea for months at a time. Starting to feel a little bit like that. We’ve got a crew of 2 on this ship and I’m not the captain. This ship is a lot more comfortable than the ship I was on then. Foods better too. It’s March 24th. I don’t have the virus. I’ll drink to that. You can also drink to National Cheese Steak Day, National Agriculture Day, National Chocolate Covered Raisins Day and (drum roll) National Cocktail Day! Since I’m an Ordained Priest of the Latter Day Church of the Dude, I think sometime later today I’ll raise a White Russian to celebrate today. Now to the interesting footnotes of history. On this day in 1832, Mormon leader Joseph Smith was beaten, tarred & feathered in Ohio. That kept him moving West. In 1906 the “Census of the British Empire” shows Great Britain rules 1/5th of the world. In 1930 on this date, the 1st religious services are telecast in US. Finally, in 1958 Elvis Presley joins the army on this day. This is the birthday (1974) of Harry Houdini who said, “What the eyes see and the ears hear, the mind believes.” Today is the date in 1882 that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s life ended at the age of 75. He said, “We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done.” I like that one. Now it’s time to start dong the same thing I did yesterday. “Wasn’t too bad”, “Could be worse”, Yada, Yada, Yada. Remember, it’s your attitude that makes your day. Have as good a day as you can. Make a Cocktail and celebrate life. Abide.
