Here we are in the time/space of 03.22.2020. Since I … don’t want to die, I’m staying away from everyone today, again. When this is over, and it will be over someday, I wonder what the new normal will be like? It will be different. You can’t shut down an economy and then bring it back quickly. It will be interesting to watch. Today is As Young As You Feel Day, Gryffindor Pride Day (Harry Potter), National Bavarian Crêpes Day, National Buzzard Day and National Goof Off Day. I’ll go with the Buzzard Day. Pretty amazing bird and they help keep the roads clean. Now the footnotes of history. In 1349 the townspeople of Fulda, Germany massacre Jews, blaming them for the Black Death. As I’ve said over and over again, the Jews of Europe never caught a break. The Black Death is the worst pandemic in history. It killed 1/3rd of the population of Europe. In 1873 on this day, slavery is abolished in Puerto Rico. Today is celebrated as Emancipation Day. In 1933 FDR makes wine & beer with up to 3.2% alcohol legal. I grew up with 3.2 beer and it works just fine. This is the birthday (1931) of William Shatner. He said, “Regret is the worst human emotion. If you took another road, you might have fallen off a cliff. I’m content.” That’s another way of saying you need to let go of your “wish I hads“. This is also the day in 1832 that Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, German writer and social philosopher died at the age of 82. He said, “Nothing is worth more than this day”. He also said, “Precaution is better than cure.” That’s why we are social distancing. Since it is Gryffindor Pride Day, I’ll repeat my suggestion of a few days ago. Read the Harry Potter series, in order and after each book, watch the movie. I’ve done it and maybe I’ll do it again. Great way to kill time. Watch out for the Zombies, wash those hands and be sure to Abide.
