Another day of social distancing is upon us. 03.20.2020 to be specific. I pretend it’s a zombie apocalypse out there which doesn’t help much but does a little. We’re all in hiding from “something” that can kill us. Lucky for me the something can’t hear me play my ukulele or smell my coconut rum. This is Hufflepuff Pride Day which is from the Harry Potter books. Here’s a suggestion: If you haven’t read the series, you should. You can download them. Read the first book and then watch the movie made about it. Then second and so on and so on. It’s a fantastic series and will help you fight boredom for a few weeks. It’s also Alien Abduction Day which doesn’t sound too bad right now, National Bock Beer Day, International Day of Happiness and National Ravioli Day. In 1930 Kentucky Fried Chicken is founded by Colonel Harland Sanders in North Corbin, Kentucky. He said, “I was sixty-six years old. I still had to make a living. I looked at my social security check of 105 dollars and decided to use that to try to franchise my chicken recipe. Folks had always liked my chicken.” This is the birthday (43 BC) of the Roman poet Ovid. I’m always amazed that what a person said over 2,000 years ago is still available to me and often shows remarkable intelligence. I don’t think the ensuing 2,000 years has made us much smarter. Ovid said, “Whether they give or refuse, it delights women just the same to have been asked” and “The man who has experienced shipwreck shudders even at a calm sea.” Today is also Carl Reiner’s birthday (1922). He said, “The key to longevity is to interact with other people.” I agree with that. I miss my previous life. Despite that, I’ll keep my head down, wash my hands often, avoid my friends and keep safe from the zombies and hope you do the same. Abide
