I woke up this morning thinking about the guys who used to mark the days off in the dungeons by scratching a mark on the wall. Lucky me. I’ve got a calendar. I’m not getting stir crazy yet. It’s March 18. That means it’s Sloppy Joe Day, Awkward Moments Day, Forgive Mom and Dad Day, Goddess of Fertility Day and National Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day. I do like a Sloppy Joe, both the sandwich and the Key West Bar. I also hope my kids forgive me for all the parenting mistakes I made. Who doesn’t like Oatmeal Cookies? A pretty good list I think. In 1662 on this day the 1st public bus service begins in Paris. In 1834, the 1st railroad tunnel in the US completed in Pennsylvania. It’s length was 275 meters. In 1881 the Barnum & Bailey Circus, advertised as “The Greatest Show on Earth”, debuts at Madison Square Garden, New York City. The circus would last 146 years before closing in 2017. In 1922, a British magistrates in India sentence Mahatma Gandhi to 6 years imprisonment for disobedience. Gandhi is one of my favorite people to quote. Here’s one: “Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.” This is the birthday (1837) of Grover Cleveland, the 22nd and 24th President. He said, “Sometimes I wake at night in the White House and rub my eyes and wonder if it is not all a dream.” This is also the day in 2017 that Chuck Berry assumed room tempreture at the age of 90. He said, “Of the five most important things in life, health is first, education or knowledge is second, and wealth is third. I forget the other two.” Be safe today. The zombies are out there and they’re hungry. Abide
