I wrote a couple of days ago driving down a highway and seeing storm clouds in the distance. They’re closer now. This is like waiting for the first giant drops to hit the windshield. I’ve been in a war, an earthquake, hurricanes, typhoons and now I get to add a pandemic to the list. Whatever happens, this is a going to be a big bump in the road for lots of people. We should all be finding ways to lessen the blow instead of placing the blame. Just saying….. It’s March 12, 2020 and that means it’s Girl Scout Day, National Plant A Flower Day, National Baked Scallops Day, Popcorn Lovers Day and National Alfred Hitchcock Day. He said, “The length of a film should be directly related to the endurance of the human bladder.” In 1894 on this date, Coca-Cola is sold in bottles for the first time in a candy store in Vicksburg, Mississippi. At that time, Coco-Cola had cocaine as an ingredient. In 1904, Andrew Carnegie established the Carnegie Hero Fund. The Fund recognized persons who performed acts of heroism and to provided financial assistance to those disabled and the dependents of those killed saving saving other. Carnegie said, “Surplus wealth is a sacred trust which its possessor is bound to administer in his lifetime for the good of the community.” This is the birthday (1922) of Edward Albee who wrote “Who’s afraid of Virginia Wolf”. He said, “Never marry for money; you can borrow it cheaper.” On a more sober note, this is the day in 1945 that Anne Frank dies of typhus in the Belsen concentration camp at the age of 15. She said, “I don’t think of all the misery but of the beauty that still remains.” With that, I’ll now start my day. Wash your hands, keep your distance and hope for the best. Abide.
