March 10, 2020 is going to be a good day in Central Florida. Just watched the weather report and we’re in the 80s for the next week. I hope that means that we are close to getting out of the season that viruses like. Wouldn’t that be nice. I will keep my thoroughly washed fingers crossed. Today is Paper Money Day, International Bagpipe Day, National Blueberry Popover Day and Pack Your Lunch Day. That’s an easy list. Blueberry is the key word. The reason today is paper money day is because in 1862 the government issues the 1st paper money in the form of $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, $500 and $1000 notes. In 1876 on this day, the first telephone call was made. Alexander Graham Bell says “Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you” to his assistant. And, in 1933 Nevada becomes 1st US state to regulate narcotics. Before we regulated narcotics, you could buy your favorite drug at the corner store. Amphetamines (speed) were the most popular. This happens to be the day in the year 37 that Tiberius Claudius Nero, the Roman emperor died at the age of 78. Tiberius said, “It is the duty of a good shepherd to shear his sheep, not to skin them.” This is also the day that Harriet Tubman died in 1913 at the age of 91. She said, “You’ll be free or die” and “I can’t die but once”. How many times did Harriet put her life on the line to help another person be free of slavery? She was a remarkable lady. With that, I think I’ll start this new, never been before, day. Abide and remember to wash those hands.
