It’s now March 4th, 2020. Sunshine and a high of 86 degrees is the forecast. Pretty good for this time of the year. Soon it will be back to the mid 90s and we’ll be wishing for a day like today. The Commission has decided that today is Discover What Your Name Means Day, Hug A GI Day, Marching Music Day, National Dance the Waltz Day, National Sons Day, National Pound Cake Day, National Snack Day and Toy Solider Day. None of these float my boat so I’ll just celebrate living this day. This day was the date that many of our Presidents were inaugurated. In 1793 Washington’s (2nd inauguration) made the shortest speech (133 words) ever given. In 1841, William Henry Harrison gave the longest speech of 8,443 words. In 1918 on this date, the Spanish flu begins at an Army camp in Kansas starting a worldwide pandemic killing 50 to 100 million people. In 1924 “Happy Birthday To You” published by Claydon Sunny. This is the birthday of Garrett Morgan (1877). He invented the gas mask and the traffic signal. I’ll bet you didn’t know that. He said, “If you can be the best, then why not try to be the best?” Good question. This is also the day in 1994 that John Candy dies of a heart attack at the age of 43. Another really funny guy who made us laugh and left too soon. Maybe I’ll watch one of his movies. Now I’m off to live today. You be sure and Abide.
