Yesterday was a good day to live and my expectation is that today, February 6, 2020 will be too. Yes, the world is in chaos. Yes, we have decided to divide ourselves into political tribes. Yes, there is ample pain and suffering all around us. I can choose to focus on what’s wrong or I can focus on what is right in my life and be grateful. I think today, I’ll pick option B. After all, it is National Frozen Yogurt Day, Pay-a-Compliment Day, Lame Duck Day and Ronald Reagan Day. I’ll go with paying a compliment to as many people as I can today. Making someone feel good is a superpower we all have. Might as well use it occasionally. Now to what happened on this date. In 1820 the 1st organized emigration of blacks back to Africa began. New York City to Sierra Leone. In 1882, the society of the Knights of Columbus forms in New Haven, Connecticut. In 1894 the bottle opener is patented by William Painter. In 1911 the 1st old-age home is opened in Prescott, Arizona. In 1918 Great Britain grants women (30 & over) the right to vote. In 1935 the “Monopoly” board game goes on sale for 1st time. Finally, in 1968 on this date, former President Dwight Eisenhower shot a hole-in-one. The reason today is Ronald Reagan Day is because this is the day in 1911 that he was born. This is also the date in 1971 that Danny Thomas has a heart attack and dies. He said, “Success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It’s what you do for others.” That’s a good philosophy. Follow Danny’s advice and give away compliments today. And, above all, be sure and Abide.
