It’s February 4, 2020 and we’re traveling at 18.5 miles per second or 1.6 million miles per day into a section of space we’ve never been before. The fact that I/we get to live on this ball of rock with a thin atmosphere as we fly through space at this incredible speed is awesome. Reason enough to celebrate but there’s other reasons too. Like: National Hemp Day, National Thank a Mailman Day, National Homemade Soup Day, National Stuffed Mushroom Day and Rosa Parks Day. I’ll raise my cup of coffee and toast Rosa who said, “Each person must live their life as a model for others.” Well put I think. Now to the way back machine: In 1194 the Duke of Austria is paid $100,000 Marks to return Richard I, King of England. The term “Kings Ransom” turns out to have a real basis in history. In 1824, J W Goodrich introduces rubber galoshes. In 1849 the University of Wisconsin begins in 1 room with 20 students. In 1866, Mary Baker Eddy reports being cured of her injuries by opening a bible. She becomes the founder of Christian Science. In 1922 First part of Katherine Mansfield’s short story “The Garden Party” appears. I only bring this up to give you one of her quotes, “Life never becomes a habit to me. It’s always a marvel.” My feelings exactly. Finally, on this date in 1970 “Patton” starring George C. Scott premieres in New York City. Patton said, “The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.” This date (1902) Charles Lindbergh was born in Detroit MI. He said, “After my death, the molecules of my being will return to the earth and the sky. They came from the stars. I am of the stars.” I often read the “quote of the day” and seldom use it. Today I will and it comes from the Dali Lama who said, “The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness.” And that’s a wrap on this post. I anticipate that February 4th will turn out to be a good day. I hope yours is good too. Abide.
