What will you do on this 19th day of January 2020? There’s some good football today being played today. It will be in the mid 70s if you happen to live in Central Florida. We’re finally going to get some rain. Overall, a pleasant foundation on which to build a memory. Since it also happens to be Good Memory Day, we’ve got something that should be easy to celebrate. It’s also Brew A Potion Day, New Friends Day, National Popcorn Day, Gun Appreciation Day, World Quark Day, World Snow Day, Tin Can Day and World Religion Day. In case you didn’t know (I didn’t), Quark is a type of European Cheese. I’m sticking with the Good Memory Day out of this list. It’s what I try to make each and every day. Now to the history: In 1785 the first manned balloon flight in Ireland was made. In 1825 Ezra Daggett and nephew Thomas Kensett patent food storage in tin cans which is why this is Tin Can Day. In 1903 a new bicycle race named “Tour de France” was announced. In 1922 a geological survey says that US oil supply would be depleted in 20 years. In 1955 on this date “Scrabble” debuts on board game market. Finally, on this date in 1981 Muhammad Ali talked a despondent 21 year old out of committing suicide. Ali is one of my favorites. I made a lot of money betting on his fights. Here’s a quote: “I done wrestled with an alligator, I done tussled with a whale; handcuffed lightning, thrown thunder in jail.” How could I not bet on someone with that much faith in themselves? Today is the birthday (1809) of Edgar Allan Poe. He said “Man’s real life is happy, chiefly because he is ever expecting that it soon will be so.” He thought, rightly so, that a positive attitude was important. This is also the date in 2006 that Wilson Pickett, dies of a heart attack at 64. “All you want to do is ride around Sally”. I wonder how many times a day a band plays that song? Now, I’ve finished this post and it’s time to start working on making a good memory. I’ve got a positive attitude so it should be easy. Abide
