We’ve are now in January 18, 2020. I’m sitting in front of my computer with a large mug of coffee as I was yesterday at this time and the day before. It’s my routine. I’m sure that you have your own. It’s difficult to make any day special when you do the same things this day that you do every day. It all comes down to our attitude. For example: Pooh: “What day is it?” Piglet: “It’s today, my favorite day.” I bring this up because today happens to be Winnie the Pooh Day. It’s also National Gourmet Coffee Day, National Peking Duck Day, National Use Your Gift Card Day and Thesaurus Day. I’m going to celebrate the simple wisdom of Winnie. Now to what happened on this date: In 1644 the Pilgrims in Boston reported America’s 1st UFO sighting. In 1733 America’s 1st polar bear exhibition was held in Boston. In 1896 the 1st demonstration of an X-ray machine in US was held in New York City. In 1943 the government bans sliced bread to be sold to reduce bakery demand for metal parts. This was because the metal was needed for WWII. Finally, on this date in 1973 was John Cleese’s final episode on “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” on BBC TV. Monty Python was one of my favorites. I love the dry British humor. This is A. A. Milne’s birthday (1882). He is the author of the Winnie the Pooh books. He said “You will be better advised to watch what we do instead of what we say.” That is excellent advice particularly when dealing with politicians. This is also the day in 1936 when Rudyard Kipling drew his last breath at the age of 70. I’ve given you the following quote by Kipling but it’s so profound that I’ll give it to you again “All the people like us are we, and everyone else is They.” That’s why we’re tribal. I’ll leave you now to start my day. I’ll also attach my favorite Monty Python sketch. The Dead Parrot. Watch it because it will make you laugh and that’s a good thing. Abide
