We are now in the time/space of January 13, 2020. There’s only 352 days left in this year. Seems like a lot doesn’t it? It isn’t. They go fast, especially when you’re having fun. That’s my plan. I don’t want to live them too fast, but I do want to live them well. We’ve got the following Commission approved choices today: It’s Make Your Dream Come True Day, National Clean Off Your Desk Day, Gluten Free Day, National Rubber Ducky Day, Public Radio Broadcasting Day and Peach Melba Day. I’m already living my dream. The first historical footnote that I find interesting is in 1695 when Jonathan Swift was ordained an Anglican priest in Ireland. His quotes are interesting: “Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.” and “He was a bold man that first ate an oyster.” I’ll bet I would have enjoyed Sunday services with him preaching. In 1874 on this date the Tompkins Square Riot in New York City happened when the police attacked thousands of unemployed protesters. There was a severe recession going on and if you didn’t work, you didn’t eat. In 1930 the first “Mickey Mouse” comic strip is published. In 1938 the Church of England accepts the theory of evolution. In 1962, The Twist by Chubby Checker reached #1 for the second time. It was released in 1960 and hit #1 and then came the dance craze and it got back to #1 on this date two years later. Here’s one of Chubby’s quotes: “I’m just grateful to be on this planet. I have no enemies that I know of. I’m just the guy who makes happy.” Me too Chubby, me too. This is the day in 1929 that Wyatt Earp passed at the age of 80. He said, “Fast is fine, but accuracy is everything.” I’ll end this post with a quote from my favorite physician, Dr. Seuss “Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.” That’s the attitude we all need. Abide.
